MD Anderson Cancer Center Medical Assistant - Medical and Surgical Oncology (8am - 4:30pm) in West Houston, Texas

As a Magnet Recognized Hospital, we have a community of nearly 3,000 professional nurses who provide our patients with excellent oncology nursing care.

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of Medical Assistant experience. Must be able to work Monday - Friday 8 A.M.- 4:30 P.M.

Essential Job Functions:

Assists with patient examinations, treatments and procedures.

Prepares / stocks rooms and escorts patients to rooms.

Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for scheduled infusion/treatment.

Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work.

Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review.

Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital.

Must position, lift, move and assist patients with toileting needs as needed

Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment.

Maintains inventories of laboratory and medical supplies.

Processes all required paperwork.

Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure.


Required: High school diploma/equivalent.

Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.


Required: One year of medical assistant experience. With preferred degree, no experience is required.

Preferred: None.


Required: Certified or eligible to be certified by one of the following based on Medical Assistant experience or preferred education: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Preferred: Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
