MD Anderson Cancer Center Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Radiation Oncology) - Sugar Land in Sugar Land, Texas

Specially trained board-certified oncologists and multidisciplinary professionals provide a wide range of standard and emerging treatments such as stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic body radiation treatment (SBRT), cardiac displacement, accelerated partial breast irradiation, and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). Our highly specialized, integrated, multi-team approach to cancer care includes supportive services such as on-site laboratory, rehabilitation therapy, and pain management, access to clinical trials, clinical nutrition, genetic counseling, and oncology nurse navigator.

Advanced Practice Providers in the Houston Area Locations partner with radiation oncologists to deliver high quality, integrated, and specialized cancer care. Today, MD Anderson Cancer Center has over 800 Advanced Practice Providers and that number continues to rise as demonstrated by the value of their skills, knowledge, and abilities in the delivery of cancer care.

Summary:

To promote, provide, and maintain patient care under physician supervision in radiation oncology areas of the M. D. Anderson Houston Area Locations. Affect patient care and outcomes throughout the disease process across the UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center according to the policies and procedures provided by the UT MDACC and the State of Texas as they pertain to Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Conduct comprehensive assessment of patients throughout the continuum in the inpatient and ambulatory setting based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.

Direct care of patients with a wide range of oncologic diseases to include new patients, Consultations, Follow-Up during and after cancer therapy, autonomous survivorship clinic

Proficient use of Epic in the delivery of care

Perform and document history and physicals, order diagnostic studies, therapeutic procedures, prescribe medications, interaction and direct communication with referring physicians, collaboration with and direct reporting of patient information to the medical staff

Participate in safety and process improvement initiatives throughout the Houston Area Locations

EDUCATION:

Required: Master's Degree in Nursing. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: None.

Preferred: Advanced Practice Provider experience in oncology setting.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Required: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Nurse. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.

MAY BE REQUIRED: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.

This position requires working in Patient Care Unit (e.g. Nursing unit; outpatient clinic). Refer to the Position Description for specific ADA requirements.
