MD Anderson Cancer Center Team Leader, Animal Resources - Veterinary Medicine & Surgery - Washroom in Houston, Texas

The Washroom Team Leader in the department of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery primary function involves coordination of washroom tasks to assure cleanliness and safety in the area with an orderly flow of personnel and work duties and meet the needs of those areas being serviced. Assigns tasks to those assigned to the area assuring to maintain standards consistent with the departmental policies and procedures. Oversees and maintains the cage preparation, housekeeping, janitorial duties, collection of equipment, warehousing and inventory duties as required, and Quality Assurance. Reports to Animal Resource Supervisor on a daily basis regarding operations, personnel, and administrative issues. Serves as back up for all husbandry/cage wash positions. Participates in compliance functions (e.g., IACUC, AAALAC, USDA, etc.).

KEY FUNCTIONS:

1. 1. Oversight : Coordinates washrooms tasks to assure cleanliness and safety in the area with an orderly flow of personnel and work duties and meet the needs of those areas being serviced Assigns tasks to those assigned to the area assuring to maintain standards consistent with the departmental policies and procedures. Oversees and maintains the cage preparation, housekeeping, janitorial duties, collection of equipment, warehousing and inventory duties as required, and Quality Assurance. Reports to Animal Resource Supervisor on a daily basis regarding operations, personnel, and administrative issues. Serves as back up for all husbandry/cage wash positions. Participates in compliance functions (e.g., IACUC, AAALAC, USDA, etc.)

2. 2. Documentation : Prepares, assembles, compiles and maintains inventory and various other statistics in an organized manner for reporting, accounting, and billing purposes. Ensures that all cage washer and autoclave run report printouts are collected and placed in appropriate notebook or file.

3. 3. Facility & Room Care : Ensures that the washroom complex is maintained in an orderly, clean manner. Cleans sterile prep designated areas. Sprayer jets on tunnel washers and rack washer are to be inspected at least once daily and cleaned as often as is needed. Run an acid descale cycle on rack and tunnel washers weekly.

4. 4. Cage Washing & Sanitization : Performs sanitation of animal cages, accessories, racks, and all other ancillary equipment. Ensures that cage washing equipment is working properly. Ensures proper amount of bedding is put in the cage. Properly disassemble and stages ventilated cage racks for washing in rack washer. Performs flushes of automated water system manifolds on racks using the Rack Manifold Flush Station. Performs flushes of recoil hoses using Recoil Hose Flush Station. Ensures proper chemical dilution in RMFS and RHFS. Properly reassembles equipment following sanitation.

  1. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: Four years of experience in animal care to include two years of the experience in specialized housing and/or technical procedures. May substitute up to two years required animal care experience with completed years of college on a one to one basis.

OTHER:

Required: Must meet department American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification requirements: Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) within 180 days of eligibility.
