MD Anderson Cancer Center Sterile Processing Technician (2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.) in Houston, Texas
The ideal candidate for the Sterile Processing Tech position will have a minimum of one year hospital-based sterile processing experience. Shift is nights, 6:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
Minimum: $28,800 – Midpoint: $36,000 – Maximum: $43,200
Performs duties to include sterile room staging and distribution, assembly of individual instrumentation, case cart preparation and decontamination processes while adhering to the department policies, procedures and manufacturer guidelines. Maintains instrumentation in optimal working condition for daily use.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Cleans, assembles, sterilizes and dispenses instrumentation/trays to needed areas. Maintains instrumentation in optimal working condition for daily use. Verifies that correct cleaning/sterilization procedures are being followed as specified by manufacturer. Inspects instrumentation for signs of wear and tear. Identifies and forwards items in need of repair to Sterile Processing Coordinator. Coordinates with nurse manager concerning special daily instrumentation/tray needs. Identifies, reports and resolves shared resource conflicts. Collaborates with Sterile Processing Coordinator for adequate daily supply needs. Maintains minimal PAR levels and notifies coordinator for order needs. Assists with resolution of instrumentation/equipment problems in the operation room. Assists with orientation of new employees.
Sterilization and Instrumentation Resource
Provides assistance with decontamination of instruments, sterile room support, case cart preparation, assembly support limited to individual instrumentation and supervised set assembly while adhering to department policies and procedures. Operates equipment limited to cart washer, washer/disinfector, ultrasonic cleaner, heat sealers, storage carousel as well as variety of testing devices. Supervised set Assembly.
Uses appropriate communication with all others in order to provide needed instrumentation; anticipates customer needs and achieves by meeting work production standards (set by Management) and facilitation of teamwork; facilitates orientation of new staff members; follows Attendance guidelines; practices time-management skills including on time arrival to work area, return from break and mealtime, completion of work by shift end, minimal personal telephone calls.
Participates in staff and self-development meeting/in services. Proficiency in utilization of instrumentation tracking system. Maintains a clean orderly work area. Demonstrates safety awareness. Participates in at least one approved educational classes/seminar. Must be customer service oriented and demonstrate customer service skills to all levels of the OR Staff.
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Diploma from an approved Sterile Processing Program.
Required: One year hospital-based sterile processing experience. No experience with preferred education.
Preferred: One of the following: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM). Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Technician (CSPDT) by the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD). Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
