MD Anderson Cancer Center Stationary Engineer - Nights in Houston, Texas

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 10:30pm-7am.

Ideal candidate will have a 1st or 2nd grade City of Houston boiler license.

The primary purpose of the Stationary Engineer position is to provide skilled work in the operation of the central chilled water and steam system power plant. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all equipment in boiler rooms and equipment repairs within the complex.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs preventative maintenance, correctives and inspections on electric/steam boilers, chillers, cooling towers and associated pumps. Start up, coordinate equipment run scenarios, and monitor/troubleshoot chillers, towers and boilers via BAS system. Perform chemistry analysis, make necessary adjustments, data gathering and condition assessments on cooling tower, chillled water and boiler feed water. Perform testing, chemical treatment and preventative maintenance/correctives for Public Drinking Water System and associate assets. Cleans and maintains all equipment and work areas.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Maintain Utility Systems At Optimum Energy Efficiency and Designed Operation.

Operate utility related equipment at optimum energy efficiency.

Document daily activities and equipment related information within appropriate system.

Review, discuss and update as needed utility equipment status board and FOC/monitoring services generated work requests.

Answer after normal business hours work requests from FOC – coordinate support as needed (handoff to other KUSO shifts, specific craft shops, craft on call, etc.).

Visit all Research and Facilities South Campus building locations as needed to ensure proper operation of equipment.

Troubleshoot utility system malfunctions, identify reasons for nonstandard operations, document as required and update procedures if necessary to avoid future issues. If possible, repair failed utility system/equipment. If not, secure failed equipment and document as necessary.

Availability and Reliability of Utility Equipment

Complete shift route check sheets

Investigate known system/equipment issues and perform necessary corrective actions

Troubleshoot equipment failures, take necessary corrective actions and communicate (verbal and written) as needed for understanding

Perform internal PM's and corrective work orders

Oversee contractor PM's and corrective work orders

Perform assorted process water chemical tests and make adjustments if needed to maintain correct operating range

Record process water test results

Maintain process water treatment supplies and order as necessary for appropriate inventory levels

Maintain Accurate Water Usage Log information

Record city, well, make-up & blow down water meter information

Maintain an Efficient Response to Work Requests and Orders

Submit work requests as needed to maintain proper operation of south campus systems/equipment.

Carry communication devices

Communicate with on-site team members on any changes in equipment availability or status

Respond to customer service requests and client equipment alarms

Respond to various facility alarms

Respond to all Research And Facilities South Campus fire alarms.

Help manage work order backlog (includes PM and corrective)

Other duties as assigned.

Assist with the orientation and training of south campus operation and maintenance employees.

Provide back-up support for the other crafts (refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance).

Work on other duties as assigned.

Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Four years of experience working with boiler systems, chiller/cooling towers, and/or water treatment systems in a large central physical plant.

Preferred: Valid Class A, B or C Texas driver's license and eligible to drive State and institutional vehicles.

Salary Range: $44,800 -$56,000 - $67,200
