MD Anderson Cancer Center Sr Network Engineer - IT Engineering in Houston, Texas

The primary purpose of the Sr. Network Engineer position is responsible for providing and maintaining high-quality, reliable, flexible, and appropriate infrastructure networking technology solutions for UT MD Anderson Cancer Center (UT MDACC). These systems will be used campus-wide by physicians, patients, faculty, students, guests and staff in accordance with UT MDACC's goals. The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for all technical aspects of networking installation, maintenance and support

Ideal candidates will have: Routing and Switching experience with Arista and Cisco, as well as Palo Alto Firewall, F5 Load-balancing and Cisco wireless experience.

Engineering/Design/Project Consultation

Create designs based on established architectural standards and best practices.

Make recommendations based on knowledge of both architectural and engineering standards for MDACC.

Provide consultation on the services to customers looking for IT based solutions within the institution.

Correct Network and Telephony Failures

Correct problems and failures that occur on the MDACC network or voice infrastructure.

Work with data and voice operations to resolve these issues in a collaborative and constructive manner.

Leverage all available resources/tools/systems to work as efficiently and quickly as possible to reduce the mean time to repair for any given occurrence.

Enhancement and Development

Recommend actions to improve the operation of the network.

Evaluate and/or enhance tools for operation and monitoring.

Responsively develop and/or enhance core information systems to meet new and/or existing needs.

Monitor and Analyze Performance

Know and understand the baseline performance of the network and closely monitor it so it operates according to its intended design.

Monitor the network's performance so that it meets the demands of all the applications and services it supports

Analyze performance anomalies, irregular stresses, and design deviations that affect proper network operation.

Develop tutorials and best practices that can be passed on as knowledge transfer to network operations.

Change Management and Communication

Follow the institutional process for change management as well as the additional communication requirements imposed within Network Services.

Communicate changes frequently, clearly, and in a timely manner so that all parties involved, directly or indirectly, are aware of the changes.

Follow the established network engineering processes for getting changes vetted and approved for implementation.

Other duties as assigned

Education Required:

Bachelor's degree.

Experience Required:

Five years of practical experience in designing and implementing TCP/IP network. May substitute require education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Preferred Experience:

Routing and Switching experience with Arista and Cisco, as well as Palo Alto Firewall, F5 Load-balancing and Cisco wireless.

Certification Required:

One of the following: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification

Preferred Certification:

Cisco CCNP
