MD Anderson Cancer Center Sr Health Professions Educator - Histotechnology Program in Houston, Texas

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center School of Health Professions, in concert with the mission and visions of MD Anderson Cancer Center, is committed to the education of healthcare professionals, through formal academic programs that award institutional certificates and degrees in health sciences.

Designs and provides didactic and laboratory education activities for the Program in Histotechnology (HTL). Perform procedures using analytical methodology in a student laboratory setting for the School of Health Professions (SHP) Histotechnology Program and manages the day-to-day operation of the student laboratories.

Key Functions:

Instruction of SHP Histotechnology (HTL) Students Provides routine histology laboratory educaton in the HTL program student laboratories. Participates in appropriate didactic instruction in routine histotechnology, special techniques and lab management. Supervises laboratory instruction and teaches histotechnology laboratory techniques in accordance with MD Anderson Cancer Center instituional and SHP policies. Creates effective lesson plans and supervises student participation in class and laboratory courses. Documents instructional processes and outcomes in accordance with the NAACLS standards and evaluates students' education to include didactic and laboratory competencies.

Educational coordination for SHP HTL Students Works with HTL program director and education coordinator in developing curriculum for the student laboratory courses. Prepares laboratory class exercises, quizzes, interval exams, final written and practical exams and comprehensive final exams to evaluate student competencies. Collaborates with HTL program faculty to plan and evaluate educational curriculum. Presents program curriculum in the classroom and laboratory to students. Integrates appropriate knowledge of accreditation standards, principles of HTL instruction and current professional practice standards in the design of educational programs.

Administrative Coordination and Laboratory Manager for SHP HTL Students Contributes and participates in the evaluation of program effectiveness. Day-to-day manager of 3 HTL program student laboratories inclusive of environmental health and saftey, lab supply inventory, instrument maintenance and tissue specimen management. Standing member of the HTL admissions, advisory and curriculum committees. Provide strategic assessment of future SHP programs needs and planning. Chief administrator of the program's Canvas learning management system. Other duties as assigned.

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree.

Preferred: Master's degree.

Certification

Preferred: Histology (HTL) & Qualification in Immunohistochemistry (QIHC) (ASCP)

Experience

Required: Three years of relevant experience. May substitute additional experience for required education on a one to one basis.

Preferred: Five years clinical histotechnology experience with emphasis on microtomy, frozen sections, biopsy grossing, workflow management and immunohistochemistry.
