MD Anderson Cancer Center Sr Engineer - HVAC in Houston, Texas

Ideal candidate will have at least seven years of recent engineering design experience with an emphasis on the design of HVAC systems for major hospitals, ambulatory care centers, research Labs, and facility systems. Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), State of Texas.

The primary responsibility of the Senior Engineer position in Facilities Planning, Design and Construction is to provide professional engineering design and construction administration services, as well as, technical expertise related to remodeling, renovation, new construction and equipment replacement projects.

FAR Evaluations. Manages the evaluation of MEP FARs (Facility Asset Requests) and Tasks for the Operations and Maintenance teams. Supports the FARs being evaluated by the planning team by coordinating the assessments and estimates prepared by the MEP Designers.

Communicates clearly, effectively and timely with management, co-workers and stakeholders during the process.

Project Design/Support. Provides engineering design services in the development of studies, reports and construction bid documents. Completes designs with the proper balance of quality, cost, and schedule. Assures compliance with applicable building codes and institutional standards.

Assists with the review and update of MD Anderson's Owner Design Guidelines. Ensure full compliance with the applicable building codes, NFPA codes, International building codes, USP, TDH and other relevant state codes, guidelines such as ASHRAE, NIH, etc.

Provides engineering project support services: Coordinates Department reviews of projects. Responds to project RFIs. Acts as liaison with external consulting engineers and other professionals. Provides written comments on their design plans and specifications. Reviews contractor submittals for compliance with contract documents. Visits construction sites to determine compliance with design intent.

Auxiliary Support Supports MD Anderson in the following areas:

Assist O&M in evaluating and finding solutions to MEP operational issues.

Assist operating staff in doing a root cause analysis of HVAC and plumbing systems, outages, failures and develop and implement corrective action plans. Provide direction to O&M staff to operate and maintain utility systems.

Coordinates with the electrical engineer for any electrical assistance required.

Partners with other M.D. Anderson Departments to set strategic long-term goals for building systems and asset replacements including the development of a potential CRR/FRM project list with priorities, as part of building infrastructure renewal program.

Manages the development of Master MEP Drawings for entry into McLaren Document Management System.

Interface with EH&S, UTPD, Campus Ops and other division and institutional departments concerning hazards, safety, emergencies, security and facility matters to ensure a safe working environment.

Identify energy savings opportunities throughout UTMDACC facilities. Provide leadership required for successful energy saving project implementation.

Other duties as assigned

Required: Bachelor's degree in an Engineering field. Six years of engineering design experience with an emphasis on the design of facility systems. Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), State of Texas.

Preferred Education/Experience: Mechanical Engineering bachelor's degree. At least six years of engineering design experience with an emphasis on the design of HVAC systems for hospitals, Ambulatory Care Centers, Research Labs and facility systems. Working knowledge of plumbing systems a plus.
