MD Anderson Cancer Center Senior Research Scientist Mass Spectrometry in Houston, Texas

Staff member of the Proteomics and Metabolomics Core Facility who will develop, optimize, and validate mass spectrometry (MS)-based analytical methods and interact with MD Anderson investigators to conduct MS analyses to assist with their projects. The Senior Research Scientist will also assist with composition of manuscripts and grant applications and the mentoring of junior team members.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

MS method development:

  • Develops new and improved methods for preparing biological samples for the analysis of various metabolites. Develops new targeted and non-targeted metabolomic methods for mass spectrometry-based analyses. Expands the capabilities of the core facility's metabolomic platforms.

MS operation, data analysis, and reporting Processes biological samples submitted for mass spectrometry analysis by MD Anderson investigators. Analyzes data and prepares reports.

Scientific publication:

  • Drafts and submits manuscripts for scientific publication. Works with supervisor to edit, revise, submit, and repeat the process as necessary.

grant applications Drafts grant applications to assist with fundraising efforts. Works with supervisor to edit, revise, and submit.

EDUCATION:

Required: Ph.D. in one of the natural sciences or related field or Medical degree.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Three years of experience in experimental or scientific work.

Preferred: Mass spectrometry method development and troubleshooting.
