Senior Coordinator, Research Data

In the Head and Neck Surgery department, our mission is to deliver the highest possible clinical care for patients with cancer of the head and neck. Job Responsibilities

To act in lead role for coordination of a prospective database for departmental clinical thyroid cancer research Data entry, analysis, and reporting.

– Develop and maintain databases for collection of research data, particularly a prospective thyroid cancer REDCap database.

– Transfer patient information into the electronic database and act as lead for ensuring maintenance of accurate data entry.

– Retrieve protocol information via computer and visual chart reviews and by communicating directly with both internal and external healthcare providers to schedule and procure testing and treatment records. Obtain outside films, surgical, pathology, and lab reports as needed. Submit specimens/films for reading.

– Review medical records to extract data points.

– Perform data entry into database and statistical analysis programs.

– Assist with basic data analysis.

– Make survival calls and appropriately record the data.

– Generate data reports and user-generated data reports, as requested.

– Provide support for data and information related to protocols, grants, abstracts, and manuscript submissions as needed.

Data Management

  • Implements and coordinates the development of data management guidelines.

  • Develops innovative strategies to streamline data collection processes which increase efficiency in data management and research data acquisition.

  • Generates and reviews data dictionaries and data review documentation.

  • Develops and executes database queries and performs data discrepancy management.

  • Designs and embeds validation rules within Section's databases to ensure completeness and consistency of study data.

  • Develops SOPs for processes which support data management guidelines including descriptions of data sources, data handling processes, and quality control measures.

Support Head and Neck Clinical Protocols

  • Collaborates with the Chief, Research Program Supervisor, and faculty in the planning, management, and evaluation of research.

  • Participates in the development of protocols including important data collection and budgetary needs.

  • Works with head & neck surgery team, doctors and research nurses with research protocols.

  • Interviews and consents patients referred to the Department of Head and Neck Surgery and review the eligibility of potential study cases with Head & Neck Endocrine Section's Chief.

  • Designs necessary modules for analysis and presentation of all data through creation of database queries. Attends weekly Head & Neck Planning Conference to identify potential study patients.

  • Meets weekly with research personnel to review, organize, and prepare research data toward the goal of scientific presentation and publication.

  • Attends biweekly staff meetings.

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and institutional guidelines for Section's research.

Professional expertise and credibility through educational programs/training and mentoring of new staff.

– Attend department research meetings and conferences.

– Supplement education as needed through use of reference materials, lectures, etc.

– Be punctual in arriving at all professional functions.

– Inform appropriate staff and arrange coverage for necessary functions when absent.

– Assist in the training and mentoring of new clinical trials staff in regard to department policies and procedures for the conduct of clinical trials and the appropriate completion of data entry.

Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree

Experience Required: Four years of related experience. With preferred degree, no experience required.

Experience Preferred: Familiar with EPIC, ability to abstract data from EPIC, Medical terminology, REDcap, patient interaction experience to consent patients
