MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Nurse Manager - Neuro Oncology in Houston, Texas

The primary purpose of the Research Nurse Manager position is to oversee the clinical research operations in the department of Neuro Oncology. The position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating clinical management of research protocols and clinical research care systems within the department. It impacts research protocols and protocol patients as well as the development of assigned staff.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Administrative Management

Supervise the activities of research nurse and data management sections and is responsible for hiring, development, coaching, evaluating and disciplining of assigned clinical research personnel.

Coordinate, plan and develop training program for clinical research personnel (faculty and ancillary staff if applicable) on research protocols, policies and procedures to ensure the level of knowledge, competency, and compliance required to conduct quality research and patient care.

Develop, communicate and administer clinical research policies and procedures to clinical research personnel in accordance with federal, institutional and departmental policies and procedures.

Operational Management

Develop and administer a strategic plan to provide overall coordination and facilitation of clinical research activities and protocol patient care.

Ensure appropriate protocol assignments to research staff based on length of experience, complexity of protocol, number of active patients, data requirement, reporting methods, etc. to accomplish department research goals.

Maintain open communication with physicians and research staff to ensure appropriate level of support for all research related activities.

Assess departmental protocols for acuity and/or patient complexity to incorporate in staffing and training needs.

Protocol Administration, Regulatory and Financial Management

Maintain knowledge of the research process using available resources in compliance with institutional policies, IRB requirements and federal regulations.

Oversee and manage protocol administration/submission process. Review protocols for discrepancies, clarity, comprehensive content, and feasibility. Develop strategies to promote enrollment of diverse patient populations.

Collaborate with the department financial staff, principal investigators, department administrator and/or institutional research finance, legal services, grants and contracts, and sponsored program personnel to develop and finalize study budget and agreement.

Direct departmental research staff in appropriate methods for managing protocol-related costs and charge recaptures. Oversee the department audit process to ensure the integrity of protocol management and charge process.

EDUCATION

Required:

Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

Five years of registered nursing experience, to included two years of research nursing experience.

Two years of supervisory experience.

R equired degree may be substituted for experience as a MDACC Research Nurse Supervisor on a one-to-one basis.

Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Required:

Current State of Texas Professional Nursing License (RN).

Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Preferred:

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
