MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Investigator - Clinical Cancer Prevention in Houston, Texas

SUMMARY

Provides supervision and special training to technical personnel and other investigators in the laboratory, and conduct highly technical work on basic science research projects and MoonShots platform projects.

  • Exercises considerable imagination, initiative, and inventiveness in planning and executing the details of experiments, and in evaluating and interpreting the results.

  • Responsible for major participation in the development and revision of techniques, assembles and operates laboratory apparatus and equipment using standardized operating procedures.

  • Provides thorough reports of experiments performed both in writing in a laboratory notebook and verbally at weekly group meetings. These reports will include interpretation of the results, rationale for improvements on established experimental methods and plans for improvements in experimental design.

  • Requires significant prior experience in working with molecular biology and proteomics.

  • Proficient in most current laboratory procedures including: cell/tissue culture methods, molecular cloning, vector construction, transfection, immunochemistry, proteinpurification, western blotting, gene mapping, promoter analysis, electrophoretic mobility shift assays, transcription assays, RNA, PCR, RT-PCR, mouse experiments and drug treatment and others.

  • Responsible for providing technical instruction to other investigators in the laboratory in a professional and collegial manner.

  • Demonstrates and practices lab safety precautions. Receives verbal and/or written instructions from principal investigator on standards and specialized lab safety procedures.

  • Attends all required safety courses.

  • Handles, stores, and disposes of radioactive isotopes, chemically hazardous materials, and biohazardous materials in procedure specified to meet MDA safetyguidelines.

  • Follows manufacturer's guidelines regarding the handling and maintenance of all lab equipment.

  • Will have working knowledge of equipment and all operations and procedures manuals. LC-MS based proteomics platform for cancer biomarker discovery and validation: Responsible for cancer biomarker discovery and validation using LC-MS (liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry) technique based proteomics platform.

  • Perform LC-MS system detector set up and mass calibration to operate the system in optimized condition to deliver high quality data for the clinical sampleanalysis.

  • Lab Operations and Maintenance: Participate in all necessary routine duties necessary for the continuous smooth operation of the laboratory. These include ordering supplies, maintaining equipment (HPLC system and freeze dryer), centrifuge and refrigeration units, cleaning surfaces, radioactive isotope monitoring, wastedisposal, washing of specialized equipment and glassware, computer maintenance, etc.

  • Project Management: Manage and organize the experiments for proteomics platform for cancer biomarker discovery and validation for MD Anderson moon-shot program.

  • The clinical samples for different type of cancer study are organized according to the proteomics experiment assignment with the specific project numbertrackable by LIMS system.

Given: Research Technicians, Laboratory Assistants, and Laboratory Technicians as delegated by professional staff member.

Education

Required : Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Preferred: Master's degree

Experience

Required: Five years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, three years of required experience.
