MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Investigator - Cancer Biology in Houston, Texas

The primary purpose of the Research Investigator is to assist the principal investigator and postdoctoral fellows with experiments, including data presentation. Experiments include the studies of complex genetically engineered mice, phenotype characterization by tissue analyses and immunohistochemistry, and molecular analyses of tumors and cells. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining adequate levels of supplies, equipment maintenance and safety oversight for the laboratory. The position requires independent decision making, judgment and organizational skills.

The salary range is min $ 46,000 mid $ 57,500 max $ 69,000.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

1. Lab studies:

  • Performing laboratory studies using complex techniques (e.g. nucleic acid extraction, PCR, immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry) as well as tissue culture (maintaining mammalian cells, growth assays). Presents data for analysis.

2. Experiment design:

  • Assists the principal investigator with design of experiments.

3. Equipment maintenance:

  • Responsible for equipment maintenance and coordinating repair of malfunctioning units for lab.

4. Orders supplies:

  • Orders and organizes supplies (including tissue culture medium) for the entire laboratory. Monitors consumable expenses and ensures that the laboratory cleanliness and safety procedures are being followed by all laboratory members.

5. Project results:

  • Compiles, writes and submits project results to superiors.

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Five years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, three years of required experience.
