MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Assistant II - Infectious Diseases in Houston, Texas
Summary
The primary purpose of this Research Assistant II position in the Department of Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and Employee Health is to provide microbiologic support for clinical studies in infectious diseases. Reads literature and confers with superiors regarding new procedures and modifies them according to the needs of the project. Records and evaluates data obtained in accordance with methods requested.
Key Functions
Cataloging, handling, and transport of human specimens for sequencing submissions
Cataloging, handling, and transport of bacterial specimens
Communicating sample collection and receipt with research coordinator and direct supervisor, and possibly remote sites.
Working and technical experience in PCR, cloning, RNA/DNA isolation, RT-PCR, creation of bacterial mutants, Western blots, and ELISAs
Maintains accurate, detailed records and experimental data and protocols.
Prepares graphs, slides and tables via photography, computer, or manually.
Able to work with database, graphing and word processing computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
Communicates results to and understands instructions from direct supervisor
Participates in lab meetings and presents data where necessary.

Education
Required: Bachelor's degree.
Preferred: Basic science research experience.

Required: Bachelors degree.
Preferred: Basic microbiologic laboratory experience.
Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences. Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
