MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Assistant II - Genomic Medicine in Houston, Texas

The primary purpose of the Research Assistant II is to provide technical and coordination skills in carrying out various research projects.

The Ideal Candidate will have experience in primary cell cultures, high throughput sample processing and liquid handling system.

Key Functions

  1. Coordinates and conducts experiments, to help design and carry out research projects in the research laboratories in accordance with established protocols.

  2. Applies the standard techniques of molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology.

  3. Keeps cell banks and archival samples organized.

  4. Reads and keeps current on literature and techniques related to field of investigation.

  5. Generates and analyzes data for presentations and publications

  6. Records and evaluates data obtained in accordance with methods requested and assists with writing reports.

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

Preferred: Master's degree with major course work in one of the basic sciences.

Experience

Required: Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.

Preferred: The candidate will have a sound working knowledge and trouble shooting skills in at least some of the following techniques:

· Cell transduction

· Cell proliferations assay, Cell viability tests

· Animal handling, Tail injection, Xenograft model, Tissue isolation

· RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, RT-PCR, q-PCR,

· Tissue processing, DNA extraction, multiplex PCR amplification

· Next generation sequencing sample preparation is a plus

· Molecular cloning, ligation, transformation,

· Transfection, protein preparation, western blotting

· Antibody assay using flow cytometry

· Implemented procedures necessary for routine H&E slides, special stains, immunohistochemistry and other technical procedures are required.

· Must be able to learn new techniques as required by the scope of the research.
