MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Assistant I in Houston, Texas
From caring for patients to conducting clinical and translational research, the Lymphoma and Myeloma department is one of the largest multidisciplinary programs treating these cancers of the blood in the U.S. Led by our faculty team of 25 physicians and scientists, our patients benefit from a team approach that includes our colleagues in radiology, surgery, radiation therapy, hematopathology, and stem cell transplantation, as well as clinical pharmacists, research and clinical nurses, social workers, and dietitians.
Maintains and establishes tissue culture cell lines which require good sterile techniques and the ability to observe and identify cell changes under the microscope, determine cell counts on the hemocytometer or coulter counter, performs colony counts or determine cell viability. Prepares sterile media and solutions.
Isolates, purifies and analyzes, RNA, DNA and protein including hybridization, gel electrophoresis, ECL staining, performing PCR reactions, quantitative RT-PCR assay.
Maintain detailed written reports of experimental data and protocols. Ability to discuss goals of each project and strategy for attaining the goals with supervisor before start of experiment in a clear and concise manner.
Equipment and Inventory
Work closely with faculty and other laboratory members to ensure that no compromises in the daily functioning of the laboratory occur due to lack of supplies or failure of equipment. Must be able to monitor lab inventory and estimate quantities and types of supplies needed in the lab.
Education Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.
