MD Anderson Cancer Center Research Assistant I - Thoracic Head & Neck Medical Oncology - Research in Houston, Texas
While encompassing the overall mission of MD Anderson Cancer Center, the particular goals of the Department of Thoracic/Head and Neck Medical Oncology are to provide the highest quality of care to our patients and to advance the treatment and prevention of aerodigestive cancers through innovative clinical and laboratory research.
The Research Assistant I provides technical assistance in carrying out various research projects.
The ideal candidate will have experience with handling human specimen, mammalian cell culture, DNA & RNA extraction from biological samples, PCR, PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA cloning and western blotting.
Functions, under supervision, in the design and initiation of research experiments. These experiments include, but are not limited to, DNA/RNA isolation from human plasma, tumor tissues and cell lines, genetic engineering of cancer cell lines, cloning screening, PCR, RT-PCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, protein purification, and other approaches.
Assists with basic laboratory techniques and in preparation of media solutions, buffers and reagents.
Reads literature and confers with superiors regarding new procedures and modifies them according to the needs of the project.
Other duties as assigned
Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.
Required: No experience.
Preferred: Previous experience with handling human specimen, mammalian cell culture, DNA & RNA extraction from biological samples, PCR, PCR, gel electrophoresis. DNA cloning and western blotting is preferred.
