The mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

The primary purpose of the Receptionist position is to provide and coordinate all tasks associated with patient services and customer service. The Receptionist effects patient care services at all levels including patients, families, staff and faculty.

1. Patient Interaction:

Greets, orients and answers questions.

Advises patients and family members of available services.

Arrives and registers all scheduled patients in the Cardiopulmonary Center through use of multi-screen computer system.

Notifies appropriate personnel of patient arrivals and patient/family status changes (i.e.- leaving waiting room)

Prints appropriate individual forms and packets from Forms Anywhere system.

Contacts appropriate Business Center if OneConnect system indicates BC problem and/or directs patient to appropriate Business Center.

Inquires with patients their desire to enroll in mymdanderson. Briefly explains benefits of mymdanderson and/or distributes information.

Updates patient demographic information in system databases.

Distributes incoming faxes to appropriate personnel from Center’s main fax machine.

Maintains supplies office supplies in Reception area. Contacts Lanier Worldwide to assist with problems with photocopier or contacts Center Administrative Assistant to arrange for repair of other Center office equipment.

Takes all outgoing mail to institutional outgoing mailboxes and retrieves incoming mail from Center mailbox.

Maintains Center waiting room in a tidy fashion. Contacts Institutional Housekeeping if conditions warrant.

Assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and visitors.

2. Financial Activities in accordance with established departmental processes:

Collects and reconciles cash payments as needed.

Manages daily pick-up and drop of money bag from Main Cashier.

3. Center phone calls:

Answers high volume switchboard of incoming calls. Determines needs of callers and handles calls or places callers on hold and pages call recipient.

Places appointment reminder phone calls to patients. Transfer phone calls to appropriate Patient Service Coordinator to arrange for rescheduling.

High school diploma or equivalent .



Two years of front office, clerical or related experience. Must pass pre-employment skills a test as required and administered by Human Resources.
