The primary purpose of the Inpatient StaffPharmacist position is to provide professional and other related pharmaceuticalcare services to MDACC healthcare staff, including, but not limited to:
Process medication ordersfor chemotherapy and investigational drug regimens
Ensure optimaleffectiveness and safety of medications ordered
Provide accurate and timelydrug information to the MDACC healthcare staff
- Order Entry/Review
a. Reviews, clarifies, andprocesses orders accurately and in a timely manner.
b. Assures appropriateness ofordered medications by taking into account pertinent factors such as diseasestate, body surface area (BSA), age, height, weight, and renal function.
c. Utilizes computer resourcesand clinical information to facilitate the provision of pharmaceutical carefunctions such as medication order entry, order verification, medicationdistribution, medication checking, and medication reconciliation.
d. Perform and documenttherapeutic interventions as appropriate.
- Pharmacy AreaSupervision/Responsibilities
a. Provides supervision ofImmediate Technical Staff working in the area including completion of jobassignments, monitoring of lunch breaks, and assuring adherence toinstitutional and departmental policies and procedures.
b. Ensure all tasks/assignmentsare completed in a timely manner to maintain appropriate workflow for optimalpatient care.
c. Maintain clean and organizedwork area at all times.
d. Monitors area inventory andsupplies, notifies appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages noted.
- QualityAssurance/Improvement and Project Management
a. Completes all assignedQuality Assurance and productivity reports including record keeping andappropriate follow up.
b. Researches/monitorsproblems, initiates corrective action and follow through until challenge isresolved.
c. Consistently providesinput/suggestions for process improvements.
d. Completes/maintains allInstitutional/Divisional requirements for licensure, mandatory education andtesting. Including but not limited to EEE, Infection Control, age relatedcompetency, Code Blue, TB testing, and IV process validation.
e. Develop, implement, and/orsupport special projects throughout the institution.
- Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's of Science degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
Eligible to receive a license to practice pharmacy in the State of Texas by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
