The Pharmacy Inpatient section, operating on a formulary system, provides 24-hour inpatient and comprehensive drug distribution services with the hospital, including unit dose, IV admixtures and specialized systems for controlled substances and investigational agents.
The hours for this position will be 3:00pm - 11:30pm, with rotating weekends and holidays required. The ideal candidate will have hospital or IV experience or completion of PGY1.
The primary purpose of the Inpatient Staff Pharmacist position is to provide professional and other related pharmaceutical care services to MDACC healthcare staff, including, but not limited to:
• Process medication orders for chemotherapy and investigational drug regimens
• Ensure optimal effectiveness and safety of medications ordered
• Provide accurate and timely drug information to the MDACC healthcare staff
- Order Entry/Review:
a. Reviews, clarifies, and processes orders accurately and in a timely manner.
b. Assures appropriateness of ordered medications by taking into account pertinent factors such as disease state, body surface area (BSA), age, height, weight, and renal function.
c. Utilizes computer resources and clinical information to facilitate the provision of pharmaceutical care functions such as medication order entry, order verification, medication distribution, medication checking, and medication reconciliation.
d. Perform and document therapeutic interventions as appropriate.
- Pharmacy Area Supervision/Responsibilities:
a. Provides supervision of Immediate Technical Staff working in the area including completion of job assignments, monitoring of lunch breaks, and assuring adherence to institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
b. Ensure all tasks/assignments are completed in a timely manner to maintain appropriate workflow for optimal patient care.
c. Maintain clean and organized work area at all times.
d. Monitors area inventory and supplies, notifies appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages noted.
- Quality Assurance/Improvement and Project Management:
a. Completes all assigned Quality Assurance and productivity reports including record keeping and appropriate follow up.
b. Researches/monitors problems, initiates corrective action and follow through until challenge is resolved.
c. Consistently provides input/suggestions for process improvements.
d. Completes/maintains all Institutional/Divisional requirements for licensure, mandatory education and testing. Including but not limited to EEE, Infection Control, age related competency, Code Blue, TB testing, and IV process validation.
e. Develop, implement, and/or support special projects throughout the institution.
Bachelor's of Science degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
No experience required.
Experience working in a hospital or IV experience or completion of PGY1.
Eligible to receive a license to practice pharmacy in the State of Texas by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Must obtain a Texas Pharmacist license by the 121st date of employment.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) would be a plus.
