SUMMARY

Function Provides advanced levels of care for medical emergencies in accordance with procedures outlined by Acute Care Services.

Scope Impacts the delivery of patient care

Essential Job Functions Provides medical emergency response. Provides patient assessment and administers medications. Interprets electrocardiograms (EKGs) and performs endotracheal intubations. Administers oxygen, aerosol therapy, intravenous drugs or fluid replacement as directed by a physician or medical protocol. Places immobilization devices as needed to ensure patient safety. Ensures medications are the correct drug, dosage and dosage form and interprets physician orders. Completes written documentation on patient condition and treatment provided. Assists in lifting, carrying and transporting patients into, within or our of our facilities. Maintains supplies, ensures ambulance and equipment maintenance.

REQUIREMENTS

Education Required Successful completion of a Texas Department of State Human Services (DSHS) approved EMT-Paramedic training course or Bachelor's degree.

Education Preferred None.

Experience Required Two years experience as a Paramedic.

Experience Preferred None.

Licensure/Certification Required All of the following: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association. Texas Paramedic License issued by the Texas Department of State of Health Services Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association
