The Medical Assistant in the Melanoma & Skin Center acts as a lead assistant in preparing patients for Melanoma Surgery, Melanoma Medical, and Dermatology appointments and assisting with procedures. There is involvement in all technical aspects of dermatological procedures to ensure continuity of care and maximum efficiency of the area. Consistently demonstrates appropriate knowledge of basic procedural supplies specific to Melanoma & Dermatology. Work includes sterile preparation of trays and preparation of instruments for sterilization. Appropriately and accurately utilizes institutional information systems to obtain patient information, collect and document biopsy specimen pertinent patient medical information for MD/Mid-Level/Clinical Nurse review. Effectively and efficiently provides assistance to the Melanoma & Skin multidisciplinary team with procedures, room turnover, inventory management, and stocking.

The Melanoma and Skin Center is committed to helping our patients win the fight against all types of skin cancer. Our focus on finding cures as part of the Melanoma Moon Shot program already has led to promising new immunotherapy treatments like ipilimumab, which uses the body’s defense system to find and destroy melanoma cells. Treatment plans may include the very latest therapies, access to clinical trials of new drugs, cancer vaccines, and targeted therapies, many developed at MD Anderson.

Salary Range: $28,200 - $36,000 - $43,200

EDUCATION:

Required: High school diploma/equivalent or graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: No experience required.

Preferred: Must have at least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant. Certified or Registered MA would be a plus.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

Required: Certified or eligible to be certified by one of the following based on Medical Assistant experience or preferred education:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT)

  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)

  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
