SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to act as lead technical assistant in preparing patients for medical visits and procedures. Impacts care of patients and caregivers in an outpatient setting. Obtains and documents flowsheet data (i.e. height, weight, vital signs, questionnaires), and notifies the medical team of any concerns. Assists with room maintenance, equipment maintenance, infection control, scheduling, and supply inventory. Provides front desk and administrative support.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Patient Care

Rooms patients in preparation for service which includes taking and documenting vital signs and/or height and weight. Notifies medical team (RN/MD/APP) regarding any patient or caregiver health concerns. Must be comfortable in assisting and responding to emergencies. Must position, lift and move patients as needed. Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Updates relevant patient information in order to maintain an accurate patient record, which can include entering data into flowsheets. Assists in ensuring a safe environment for patients, co-workers and visitors. Listens to needs of patients and offers resources as appropriate. Able to handle multiple tasks in rapid succession and effectively respond to a variety of individuals and situations.

Room Maintenance

Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment. Prepares/stocks rooms and inventory of medical supplies and patient handouts. Responsible for general room set up according to the needs of each service. Performs daily and weekly audits of supplies and equipment.

Front Desk Support

Processes requests and coordinates patient/program scheduling using strong verbal, listening and written communication skills. Accesses participant database to review registration information and completion. Documents patient registration and activities in designated database/s. Maintains databases and generates routine and as-requested reports from databases using computation and formatting skills. Schedules patient visits, physician appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures and treatment in the CARE system as well as other center scheduling systems. Communicates pertinent information regarding appointments, scheduling, prepayment, and financial counseling to patients, families, physicians, team members and other patient care areas. Handles and processes a complex and varied set of documents and situations. Interprets and coordinates physician Orders. Prepares and maintains appointment templates and/or patient records. Retrieves pre-printed forms from various institutional databases and submits comleted forms to HIMS for scanning.

Other duties as assigned

High school diploma/equivalent or graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program.
