MD Anderson Cancer Center Laboratory Supervisor - Histocompatability - 1pm-9:30pm in Houston, Texas
The Histocompatibility Typing Laboratory provides a full range of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) testing services that support the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant program of MD Anderson Cancer Center. These services include intermediate resolution typing using sequence specific oligonucleotides (SSO), high resolution typing using sanger and next generation sequencing (NGS) of all HLA loci. This lab also perform anti-HLA antibody testing, C1q-fixing HLA antibody assay, killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIR) typing, and monitoring the immune response in post hematopoietic stem cell transplantation patients. In addition, platelet refractory panel and cytokine panel using Luminex platform are performed in the laboratory. The HLA Lab tests for both diagnostic support and for obtaining matched blood components. The laboratory is a leader in the field, being at the cutting edge not only in regard to technical and methodological questions, but also in regard to information management. The lab has created an information management infrastructure that has been the foundation for important outcome studies that evaluate the effect of HLA matching on the outcome of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.In addition to these clinical and research activities, the laboratory is involved in addressing more fundamental, scientific questions like the study of population genetics of the HLA system, the definition of epitopes in the HLA molecular and the selection of peptides by different HLA molecules.
Supervises assigned technologists and technicians.
Ensures all personnel are trained.
Ensures competency assessments are completed according to guidelines.
Monitors progress of technologists through the Professional Development Model.
Coaches and counsels and writes performance evaluations for assigned employees.
May assist with staffing/scheduling.
Ensures laboratory meets quality and productivity standards.
Ensures adequate quality control methods are implemented according to standard and addresses quality control issues.
Is a subject mater expert.
Ensures supplies and equipment are ordered and maintained to meet laboratory needs.
Assists with data base testing and recommends modification to the database.
Ensures productivity is sufficient to meet time constraints established for current procedures and processes.
Continually explores process improvement and efficient operation opportunities.
Perform clinical lab assays, tests, and procedures as appropriate.
Coordinate new test/protocol development and oversee the development and maintenance of new policies and procedure documents.
Ensures compliance with all regulatory and safety standards and enforces policies and procedures.
Manages customer service interactions and relationships with diplomacy and professionalism.
Actively participates in training and orientation of new technicians to learn job duties and responsibilities.
Complies with sections telephone courtesy policies and procedures.
Demonstrates cooperation when working with both internal and external customers.
Demonstrates calmness under varying environmental circumstances: remains willing and capable of assisting with crisis situations.
Communicates problems with Supervisor or Lab Manager as needed.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's egree in a related field. Three years or related experience in a high volume laboratory. One of the following: Certified Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Registry (BOR). Certified Clinical Laboratory Specialist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist Board of Registry (BOR). Certified Cytogenetics Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Registry (BOR). Certified Histocompatability Technologist by the American Board of Histocompatability and Immunogenetics. Certified in a specialized field relevant to the laboratory assigned.
