The part-time Inpatient Pharmacy Technician will primarily distribute/maintain medications and equipment for the patient care units, but will also prepare Sterile and Nonsterile Admixtures, fill unit dose medications via APS Robot and Pyxis MedStations, and compound or repackage medications into unit dose products as needed.

The Pharmacy Inpatient section, operating on a formulary system, provides 24-hour inpatient and comprehensive drug distribution services with the hospital, including unit dose, IV admixtures and specialized systems for controlled substances and investigational agents.

This position will work an average of 19 hours per week, rotating between day and evening shifts depending on the needs of the department, and will include working some weekend shifts. The ideal candidate will have hospital or IV experience or the ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification.

Key Functions:

  1. Unit Dose Processing and Distribution:

Accurately and efficiently fill unit dose carts and first doses, pull drugs to refill controlled access cabinets, and deliver medications/supplies to designated areas.

  1. Sterile and Nonsterile Compounding/Preparation:

Accurately and efficiently prepare all types of sterile products including SVP, LVP, chemotherapy, biotherapy and investigational agents, prepare extemporaneous compounds, and repackage bulk medications.

  1. Inventory Management:

Order medications/supplies to maintain appropriate par levels, restocks medications and supplies, ensures medication security and accountability, and monitors area inventory and supplies, notifying appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages are noted.

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.


Required: No experience required.

Preferred: One year of experience in hospital pharmacy would be a plus. Must have either hospital or IV experience or certification.


Required: Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).

Preferred: Current Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and/or ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification would be a plus.


Required: Must pass pre-employment skills a test as required and administered by Human Resources.
