The Innovation Center aims to create transformational change by identifying innovative ideas and unique solutions to problems. Our team works alongside MD Anderson clinicians, researchers, patients and operational leaders using observation techniques, stakeholder interviews and market research to understand how to develop the next generation of digital technology solutions and to design groundbreaking user experiences.
The Innovation Program Director at MD Anderson Cancer Center is responsible to direct and manage the implementation of multiple projects, programs and strategic initiatives for the Innovation department. The Innovation Program Director acts as a program manager to manage work associated with the implementation of new experiences that are designed by the Innovation department, with overall responsibility for the scope, cost, schedule, and quality of the assigned projects, programs and strategic initiatives. The Innovation Project Director will drive operational transformation and organizational change through their leadership of assigned projects, programs and strategic initiatives and their governance. The Innovation Program Director will take the lead in the development, utilization, and enhancement of project management standards and best practices for the Innovation Department.
Manages Innovation projects, programs and initiatives to ensure completion of project deliverables within agreed upon timeframe and within approved budget.
Conducts analysis and assessment of operational programs, and defines processes and outcomes utilizing quantitative tools and methods to identify issues that may enhance or impede project deliverables.
Ensures quality of final project deliverables assigned to the project teams.
Maintains effective and optimal communication with project staff through regularly scheduled meetings.
Manages project staff performance effectively, providing ad hoc performance feedback and contributing to annual performance reviews.
Relationship Management/Customer Service
Provides effective communication and reporting to the Innovation Department leadership team.
Coordinates/communicates effectively with all members of the Innovation Department.
Establishes positive partnerships with internal customers/stakeholders and effectively manages these relationships to promote successful outcomes.
Interacts with leadership to help support the strategic planning and project implementation necessary to ensure a given initiative's success.
Provides oversight of vendor relationships and vendor issue resolution in support of assigned Innovation projects, programs and initiatives.
Plans, directs and manages multiple projects, programs and strategic initiatives assigned to the Innovation Department, ensuring that both operational and strategic objectives of the customer and the institution are met.
Leverages broad knowledge and experience when addressing strategic issues; foresees obstacles and opportunities relating to change or improvement.
Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in formal project management methodology and system implementation best practices.
Leads the development, utilization, and enhancement of project management standards and best practices for the Innovation Department.
Leads the development, utilization, and enhancement of best practices for governance processes.
Responsible for all aspects of project/program financial management, including developing and adhering to the approved budget and monthly financial reporting/reconciliation.
Coordinates all budget requests for the Innovation Department to ensure data is available to support decision making in the budget process.
Participates in project and program reviews to include health check, phase gate and financial reviews for projects and programs in the assigned portfolio.
Demonstrates excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Innovation Department leadership team.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field.
Preferred: Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field.
Required: Five years project/program management experience to include three years supervisory experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
Preferred: Eight years project/program management experience to include five years supervisory experience in a patient care setting.
