SUMMARY
Manage the day-to-day accounting function of the Cash Management Team and related duties including accounting entries, journals, A/R Aging, collections and reconciliations and more.
SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES
Manages the day-to-day activities of the Cash Management Team including creating accounting guidelines and processes, policy development and interpretations, and participation in meetings and/or presentations.
Manages and supervises all accounting functions of the team ensuring financial and non-financial compliance with Federal and sponsor regulations and Institutional policies and financial accounting rules and regulations. Ensures the Institutional Financial Statements, including the Income Statement and Balance Sheets are in compliance with accounting rules and regulations and are properly supported by monthly reconciliations.
Personnel Management including searching, selecting, hiring evaluating coordinating and monitoring their activity, mentoring, encouraging, and training staff.
Provides expertise and consultation to Grants and Contracts Administration and other internal or external customers.
Makes presentations to and interacts with M.D. Anderson faculty and staff at the departmental and division level.
Coordinates the year-end closing of accounting records for Grants and Contracts Accounting and prepares internal and external reports as requested
Assists in the annual financial audit and the Single Audit
Negotiates and resolves fiscal and programmatic requests with Federal agencies and other sponsors
Assists in the review, monitoring of compliance with U.T. System guidelines and federal regulations pertaining to sponsored research (Uniform Guidance Federal Regulations)
Coach and mentor staff in grants management policies and procedures
Responsible for leading and managing the accurate posting of cash management transactions
Updates and implements all necessary business policies and accounting practices
Works with data from PeopleSoft, OBIEE, queries, and numerous other systems
Manages A/R Aging and collections to minimize bad debt expenses and write-offs
Works with research departmental staff to implement best practices to ensure the accurate and time recording and reporting of payments
Participates in strategic planning for Grants and Contracts Accounting
Contributes to the Grants and Contracts Administration strategic planning of short and long-term goals
Works with ancillary departments such as A/P to ensure the accurate and timely processing of grant refunds
Assesses standard operating procedures to ensure efficiencies and effectiveness of processes
Develops best practices to ensure best in class back office processes
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field. Five years of professional experience in finance, accounting or related field to include three years of supervisory or project management experience. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.
Preferred: Accounting experience, CPA
