MD Anderson Cancer Center Coordinator, Patient Services - Float Pool in Houston, Texas

The Patient Services Coordinator in the Float Pool for Desk Operations at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides and coordinates all tasks associated with patient services and customer service. The Patient Services Coordinator effects patient care services at all levels including patients, families, staff and faculty.

The PSC float pool consists of members that support all of the ambulatory centers across the institution. This team provides staffing relief and support related to FMLA and staff turnover (resignations/transfers) for the multidisciplinary clinic areas. Responsibilities also include monitoring and working the missing referrals work queue in Epic, in addition to scheduling for the center and front desk duties. Assignments can last for one day up to several weeks, giving members of this team the unique opportunity to work with many areas of the institution without leaving their own position.

Key Functions:

  1. Patient Interaction:
  • Greets, orients and answers questions for our patients and their families.

  • Advises patients and family members of services available to them.

  • Schedules patient visits, physician appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments.

  • Assists in maintaining a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and visitors.

  1. Communication with patients and multidisciplinary teams:
  • Transcribe and coordinate physician orders.

  • Communicates pertinent information regarding appointments, scheduling, and necessary preparations to patients, families, physicians, team members and other patient care areas whether in person, by mail, by phone, by online applications or secure messaging.

  1. Record Maintenance:
  • Prepares and maintains appointment templates and/or patient records electronically and/or manually as directed.

  • Updates relevant patient information in order to maintain an accurate patient record.

  • Responsible for the security and confidentiality of patient information at all times.

  • Handles and processes a complex and varied series of documents and situations.

  1. Financial Activities in accordance with established departmental processes:
  • Reviews and reconciles patient charge documents.

  • Enters technical charges as needed.

  • May collect and reconcile cash payments as needed.

Salary Range: $28,800 - $36,000 - $43,200

EDUCATION:

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: A completed Associate's or Bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Three years of relevant work experience. May substitute additional education for required experience on a one to one basis.

OTHER:

Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
