MD Anderson Cancer Center Clinical Nurse, Outpatient (Head & Neck) - Radiation Oncology in Houston, Texas

SUMMARY

Manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care. Impacts quality of patient care, patient outcomes and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Work Week: Day/Evening, Rotating Weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Transformational Leadership: Clinical Nurse must lead others (co-workers, patients, families, significant others) to where they need to be in order to meet the demands of their future care needs. Organizes and prioritizes work of the patient care team which include but is not limited to administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy agents, pump connects /disconnects, administration of antibiotic therapy, administration of IV fluids, rapid response to chemotherapy reactions/ emergencies, IV starts, etc.

Structural Empowerment: Clinical Nurse is empowered to problem solve in order to meet organizational and unit goals and achieve desired outcomes.

Exemplary Professional Practice: Clinical Nurse has a comprehensive understanding of the role of professional nursing in the institution that is demonstrated in the relationships with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.

New Knowledge, Innovation, and Improvements: Clinical Nurse is responsible for the integration of innovation and research based findings into daily patient care practices.

Empirical Quality Results: Clinical Nurse seeks solutions to problems inherent in our institution rather than creating work arounds.

EXPERIENCE

Required: None. All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program. Foreign trained nurses who have not practiced nursing as an RN in the United States for at least one year will also be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.

Preferred: Two years relevant clinical nursing experience; possess strong critical thinking and ambulatory assessment skills. Radiation oncology or oncology experience

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION :

Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing License (RN). Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area. Certification in Oncology.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires working in Patient Care Unit (e.g. Nursing unit; outpatient clinic). Refer to the Position Description for specific ADA requirements and patient age-related information.
