MD Anderson Cancer Center Clinical Nurse - GI Surgical Oncology Unit (7:00 am - 7:00 pm) in Houston, Texas
Clinical Nurse Position on our GI Surgical Oncology Unit (7 am – 7 pm)
The ideal candidate must have graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing, TX RN license and at least 12 months recent clinical nurse experience in an acute care setting.
Shift: 7:00 am – 7:00 pm and 26 out of 52 weekend shifts per year
This is a 32 bed post-operative, medical-surgical unit. Our surgeries include but are not limited to the following: Whipple, Colon Resection, Ileostomies, Liver Resection, Small Bowel Resection and HIPEC.
Salary Range: $56,000 - $78,500 - $110,000
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area. Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and multidisciplinary team. Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes. Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies. Participates in data collection for current studies. Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies. Documents care according to established standards. Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from computer systems. Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services. Acts as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights. Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
Education Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Education Preferred: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.
Experience Required: None
Experience Preferred: Two years relevant clinical nursing experience.
Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Certification in oncology or specialty practice area. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
Other Required All clinical nurses with less than one year registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program. Foreign trained nurses who have not practiced nursing as an RN in the United States for at least one year will also be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
