MD Anderson Cancer Center Clinical Development Specialist - Radiation Oncology Clinic in Houston, Texas

Hours: Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years experience in ambulatory/inpatint nursing, has a successful track in implementing quality & safety improvement initiatives, and highly skilled in teaching/coaching/mentoring the clinical staff.

Clinical Nurse Leader, ACLS, and PALS background are a plus.

KEY FUNCTIONS

The Clinical Development Specialist-RadOnc/PTC is a clinical expert in outpatient radiation oncology that educates nurses on the application radiation treatment care aligned with a multidisciplinary team:

• Serves as an expert in radiation oncology nursing throughout the spectrum of complex patient care needs

• Assess competency and provides coaching and mentoring for the RadOnc nursing staff designed to develop clinical knowledge and skills

• Collaborates with area management and the nursing education department to design tools and methodologies to improve skills of clinical staff

• Provides educational opportunities to the nursing staff which fosters professional growth, strengthens problem solving and critical thinking skills in collaboration with nursing education department

• Incorporates radiation, oncology nursing standards, institutional RadOnc policy and procedures into practice

• Identifies annual competencies and facilitates validation in collaboration with nursing education department and area management

• Participates in area based initiatives directed at improving clinical practices and patient outcomes

• Evaluates outcomes for quality, effectiveness, efficiency, cost effectiveness, customer satisfaction and ethical considerations

• Collaborates with providers across the RadOnc enterprise to ensure educational initiatives and compliance standards met

• Provides clear delineation of duties between educational and managerial roles

• Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelors of Science in Nursing

Preferred: Masters of Science in Nursing or healthcare related field

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing License (RN)

Certification in AHA BLS HCP

Certification in Specialty Area

Preferred: Oncology Certified Nurse; ACLS and PALs

EXPERIENCE

Required: Five years of clinical registered nursing experience

Preferred: Three years clinical experience in outpatient radiation oncology nursing and two years of staff development or formal clinical education experience. Has a successful track in implementing quality & safety improvement initiative.
