MD Anderson Cancer Center Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) in Houston, Texas

The Chief Scientific Officer will champion innovation, develop strong partnerships and provide focused leadership on the science and clinical translation of research programs.

Additionally, the CSO will:

•Lead the regulatory infrastructure related to research finance, research integrity and protocol governance.

•Partner with the Chief Medical Executive to support faculty engagement, and development.

•Promote the collaboration of clinical and basic science research programs with faculty and staff across departments, and divisions.

•Hold responsibility for execution of the scientific plan, including implementation of Go/No-Go decisions to enable pursuit of out-of-the-box, high-impact and high-risk endeavors that impact patient survival.

•Oversee the allocation of research and lab space and resolve disputes regarding space.

•Coordinate with facilities to ensure efficient and effective operation of labs and vivarium.

•Oversee and directs budget management for scientific research programs and allocation of resources.

•Oversee the overall operation and integration of scientific cores.

•Work with faculty leadership to develop plans for obtaining grants and promoting their scientific advances.

•Identify opportunities for shared resource and common purpose among faculty to promote institute-wide scientific progress.

•Coordinate with Strategic Industry Ventures for opportunities for collaboration with industry partners.

•Act as a positive change agent, respecting the culture while challenging the status quo.

Requirements:

•PhD or MD

•10 years of progressive leadership experience as a scientific leader within a large research environment.

•Highly-effective leader who can both sit at the executive table, and relate to interdisciplinary research teams at all levels of the institution.
