MD Anderson Cancer Center Associate Computational Scientist -Genomic Medicine in Houston, Texas

The Genomics Medicine Research Department is recruiting highly intelligent and motivated individuals to participate in cutting-edge genomics research focusing on cancer genetics. This individual will be tasked with supporting the high throughput sequencing pipeline for the Moon Shots and Apollo projects. The successful candidate will use cutting-edge technologies and instrumentation for cancer cell genome characterization, will have solid molecular biology experience and is willing to acquire experience with our LIMS system. The laboratory utilizes cutting edge technologies and innovative approaches to dissect the molecular and cellular basis of cancer initiation, progression, and maintenance.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
•Assist in the in the analysis and development of formalisms, algorithms and software and lead execution of DNA/RNA sequencing, TCR Sequencing, tissue culture and genotyping experiments in a timely fashion.
•With direction, develops and maintains software tools and infrastructure for resolving specific problems. Design target enrichment including SureSelect, TWIST, and other technologies. Adapt to new technologies and find solutions to related academic programs.
•Contributes to the development of procedures and makes recommendations on new procedures.
•Reads literature and confers with superiors regarding new procedures and modify them according to the needs of the project.
•Ability to search and review the scientific literature for the purpose of developing SOP's.
•Proficiently use standard MS office products and willing to learn the LIMS systems develop/employed by the laboratory.•Timely laboratory sample tracking with required documents. Overall QA right along data generation pipeline. Generate standard operating procedures.
•Provides supervision, special training to technical personnel and/or highly technical work in medical and related research projects.
•Contributes to project team.
•Employ safe laboratory practices.
•Maintain research records and laboratory notes.•Ability to analyze, interpret and present data at laboratory and departmental meetings.
•Performs other duties as required.
Interacts closely with other research staff across institutional functional teams.

Education
Required: Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or related field.
Education Preferred: Master's degree in a related field.

Required: Three years experience in scientific software development/analysis. With preferred degree, one year of required experience.
