MD Anderson Cancer Center Assistant Nurse Manager - Proton Therapy (Day/Evening) in Houston, Texas

The primary purpose of the Assistant Nurse Manager position is to assist in overall operations and the coordination of patient care services. Impacts patient care and daily operations of assigned patient care area.
Supervises the clinic personnel to ensure efficient safe and efficient patient care and flow. Utilizes clinical experience to monitor and correlate activity and patient profiles to area staffing needs, assignments and budget. Plans and evaluates area compliance with institutional policies and procedures. Formulates practical recommendations regarding daily operational procedures and practices. Provides management assistance through the assurance of appropriate staffing, performance improvement activities, compliance with budgetary guidelines and human resource processes. Ensures scheduling and assignment/reassignment of staff to meet the needs of the patient population. Participates in hiring and performance management of employees. Supports a high level of clinical competence and professional development for staff. Collaborates in the oversight of patient schedules in multiple electronic systems.
Utilizes clinical expertise to monitor and correlate acuity and patient profiles to area staffing needs and assignments. Provides direct patient care approximately 50% of the time.
Assists with implementation and monitoring of quality improvement initiatives in the department.
Supports a high level of clinical competence and professional development of staff. Plans and evaluates area compliance with institutional regulatory policies and procedures. Collaborates on institutional quality improvement initiatives. Monitors staff competencies. Collaborates in the development and updating of policies and procedures. Collaborates in the oversight of clinic templates.
Oversees par levels and equipment inventories. Assists in budget preparation by proving input about human resources needs, supplies, and equipment needed for the clinic. Contributes to the strategic and financial planning of the area.
Managerial or Periodic Functions
Assists with the educational activities of external visitors to the clinic. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.
Master's degree in Nursing or related field.
Three years of clinical nursing experience. Successful completion of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center New Graduate Nurse Residency Program can be substituted for two of the three required years of clinical nursing experience.
Two years of progressive supervisory experience.
Adult and Pediatric Ambulatory & Oncology experience
Adult/Pedi PIV and port access skills
Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Certification in Oncology or specialty practice area.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
