Advanced Practice Provider opportunity in the Anesthesia Assessment Center. The ideal candidate will be an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with t wo years clinical experience as an advanced practice provider. Prefer candidates with PACU, operating room, or anesthesia experience. Will consider new graduates.
Evaluate patients, and render care, within the scope of practice outlined by state statute, in an inpatient setting.
Teach, counsel and assist patient and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
Evaluate and modify healthcare plan as related to patient condition and outcomes, under the supervision of a physician and within the parameters determined by the Acute Pain Medicine Director. Manage ongoing pain medications and dose adjustments with an aim to improve patient functionality.
Order, perform and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests that are required to manage epidural catheters, regional anesthesia catheters, and appropriately communicate and document information.
Perform systematic examination of patients, and obtain and document information regarding patient history with an emphasis on pain and conditions that alter pain expression.
Maintain detailed, legible and confidential medical records in accordance with MDACC policies.
Assess level of pain and response to pain medications and regional anesthetic interventions for inpatients with post-operative pain, acute pain or acute on chronic pain.
Evaluate in-patients with acute pain or exacerbation of chronic pain caused by medical conditions.
Adjust medications administered to inpatients on the acute pain service or the inpatient pain consult service via regional anesthetic/analgesic techniques or by patient controlled analgesia.
Provide in-service teaching of hospital nurses who care for patients with regional anesthetic techniques, epidural techniques and PCA devices.
Required: Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
Preferred: A minimum of one year of experience as an APRN.
All of the following: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
MAY BE REQUIRED: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
