SUMMARY

The primary function of the Sr. Plumber position is to act as a subject matter expert and to provide journeyman level skilled plumbing work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of plumbing components and systems (including domestic water, steam, natural gas, sewer, compressed air, vacuum, medical gases, and other utility systems). Scope impacts institutional plumbing systems and equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Interprets and works from instructions, blueprints, sketches and diagrams in the installation of plumbing systems. Estimates cost of work, requisitions material and maintains inventories. Performs a variety of plumbing work incidental to the installation and repair of air conditioning, refrigeration and other building systems. Coordinates and prioritizes the workflow of plumbers, technicians and mechanics. Investigates outages. Participates in the development of the "Owners Design Guidelines", project design phases and review processes. Inspects contracted plumbing work to ensure repairs and installations are compliant. Functions as a point of contact for vendors. Prepares and submits reports. Participates in process improvement initiatives. May precept staff.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Maintenance and repair Installs, maintains, and repairs water, air, gas, sewer, and steam lines and systems supporting the many buildings and animal areas. Connects and maintains water units. Maintains and calls for service of the many inceptors associated with animal compounds. Assists of crafts as necessary.

Facility PMs Perform equipment PM including annual certification of all backflow devices. Prepares the infrastructure for routine subfreezing temperatures in the winter.

Inventory control Requisitions materials and maintains material inventory for routine work orders and emergency repairs.

Inspections and reviews Review drawings, specifications, and submittals on repairs, alterations, and construction projects. Makes recommendations based on applicable codes and specs. Inspects installation and modifications made by contractors resulting from projects or repair activities.

Other duties : Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a recognized apprenticeship.

Preferred Education: None

Certification: All of the following:

Licensed as a Journeyman Plumber in the State of Texas

Medical Gas Piping Installation Endorsement by the State of Texas

Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

Preferred Certification: Licensed as a Master Plumber in the State of Texas; Industry-sponsored inspector certifications issued by the International Code Council (ICC) related to plumbing work.

Experience: Six years journeyman level plumbing experience and completion of recognized apprenticeship in the trade.

Preferred Experience: One year of related supervisory experience and/or minimum of one year experience with MD Anderson building systems specifications and Owners Design Guidelines
